Lightning Experience tour

Lightning Experience is the modern Salesforce interface, and knowing where things live will save you hours. When you log in you land on the Home page. Across the top is the navigation bar with tabs for the objects in your current app. On the far left, the waffle icon opens the App Launcher, the menu of every app and item you can reach. Apps are simply curated sets of tabs — switching apps changes what you see, never your underlying data.

Click an object tab such as Accounts and you get a list view: a filterable, sortable table of records. List views are one of an admin's most-used tools; you can create your own, filter by any field, and switch between them from the dropdown. Open a single record and you are on a record page, organised into a highlights panel, field sections, and related lists that show connected records like an account's contacts and open cases.

The global search box at the top searches across many objects at once — start typing and results come back grouped by type. The gear icon in the top right opens Setup, where all configuration lives. Hold on to that mental split: the app is where people do business, and Setup is where you, the admin, configure the platform. The bell shows notifications and your avatar controls personal settings.

Two shortcuts pay off right away. Favourite frequently used records and list views with the star icon so they are one click away, and learn the difference between inline-editing a single field (the pencil) and opening the full edit modal. Spend ten minutes creating an Account, adding a Contact to it, and logging an activity. Once navigating feels natural you are ready for the Data Model section, where we explain what all of this data actually is.
