Exam guide walkthrough
The Salesforce Certified Administrator exam is scenario-based and broad, and the single best study resource is the free official exam guide. It lists every objective domain with a percentage weighting, and those weightings tell you exactly where to invest your time. Reading the guide closely is not optional — it is the map for everything else.
The exam is roughly 60 multiple-choice questions in 105 minutes, and the passing score is around 65%. The objectives are grouped into weighted domains. The heaviest are typically Configuration & Setup, Object Manager & Lightning App Builder, Sales & Marketing Applications, Service & Support Applications, Productivity & Collaboration, Data & Analytics Management, and Workflow / Process Automation. Security and data-model topics recur across several domains, which is why this roadmap spent so long on them.
Turn the guide into a plan by scoring yourself honestly against each objective: confident, shaky, or new. Weight your study by the domain percentage multiplied by your weakness — a heavily weighted domain you feel shaky on gets the most hours. Map each objective to the relevant lesson here and to the matching Trailhead module, and keep a checklist you tick off as you go.
A crucial mindset: the exam tests application, not recall. Questions describe a business scenario and ask for the best configuration to meet it, often with several technically valid options where only one is the recommended, declarative-first answer. So as you study each feature, always ask "what business problem does this solve, and when would I choose it over the alternatives?"
